EPICS Keeping Your Cool Institute — the shield, dove and flame

Who we are

A Christ-centered educational and formation training center.

EPICS Keeping Your Cool Institute is powered by EPICS Counseling Services and serves as a Christ-centered educational and formation training center dedicated to equipping children, youth, individuals, couples, families, leaders, ministry teams, and the broader Body of Christ to steward anger God’s way.

The Institute provides curriculum pathways, educational classes, coaching, mentorship, small groups, discipleship experiences, leadership development, workshops, retreats, and hybrid in-person and virtual learning opportunities.

We help people understand their emotions, renew their minds with biblical truth, develop Christlike conduct and godly character, strengthen relationships, and build the emotional and spiritual capacity to live with greater purpose and intentionality.

Our goal is to help believers move beyond hiding, suppressing, reacting to, or spiritualizing their emotions and toward greater emotional awareness, healthy expression, spiritual maturity, personal responsibility, and Christ-centered transformation.

Our signature perspective

Anger is not the enemy—unformed anger is.

Our goal is not to eliminate anger. Our goal is to help believers understand it, bring it under the authority of Christ, and learn to respond with wisdom, self-control, truth, courage, and love.

Our philosophy

Emotional growth and spiritual growth are not two subjects.

The EPICS Keeping Your Cool Institute is a Christ-centered emotional and spiritual formation pathway rooted in the belief that true spiritual maturity includes emotional integrity, self-awareness, healing, biblical character, and personal responsibility.

We believe anger is a God-given emotion. Anger itself is not the enemy; unformed, unmanaged, and ungodly responses to anger can become destructive. Rather than teaching people to suppress, deny, fear, or spiritualize their emotions, we teach them how to understand, process, and steward those emotions under the authority of Christ.

Our work helps individuals recognize what is happening beneath their anger, examine unhealthy thoughts and patterns, take responsibility for their responses, establish healthy boundaries, communicate effectively, and respond in ways that reflect biblical wisdom and Christlike character.

We believe emotional growth and spiritual growth should not be separated. Emotional awareness creates an opportunity for deeper discipleship, while biblical truth provides the foundation for how emotions are understood and expressed.

Our approach creates safe, structured, Christ-centered environments where people can learn, practice, reflect, heal, grow, and develop the capacity to respond rather than simply react.

Our mission

Our mission is to restore emotional wholeness within the Body of Christ by equipping believers to steward and sanctify anger through biblical formation, renew unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior, and walk fully in their God-given identity, purpose, and destiny.

Our approach to emotional and spiritual formation

Seven movements, in order.

Our approach is built on the understanding that meaningful transformation involves the heart, mind, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and spiritual life.

  1. Recognize

We help participants identify emotions, triggers, thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and relational patterns.

  2. Understand

We explore what may be beneath emotional reactions and help participants develop greater self-awareness and emotional language.

  3. Renew

We examine unhealthy thought patterns and replace them with biblical truth and healthier ways of thinking.

  4. Take Responsibility

We teach participants to distinguish between what they feel and what they choose to do with what they feel.

  5. Respond

Participants learn practical skills for communication, self-control, conflict resolution, boundaries, problem-solving, and healthy expression.

  6. Form

Through biblical teaching, reflection, practice, accountability, and discipleship, participants develop Christlike character and emotional maturity.

  7. Transform

The goal is lasting change—helping individuals develop new patterns of thinking, behaving, relating, and responding that are consistent with their identity in Christ.

We believe formation takes time. Therefore, our programs are designed not merely to provide information, but to create opportunities for learning, practice, reflection, accountability, community, and spiritual growth.

What makes our approach unique

We do not treat anger as a behaviour problem to be corrected.

We view anger through the combined lenses of biblical formation, emotional awareness, personal responsibility, behavioral change, and spiritual maturity.

  • Forms rather than simply manages

We focus on developing the whole person rather than teaching anger-control techniques alone.

  • Integrates faith and emotional wellness

Biblical truth and emotional education work together rather than being treated as separate areas of growth.

  • Addresses what is beneath the anger

We explore thoughts, beliefs, wounds, triggers, unmet needs, relationship patterns, and learned behaviors that may influence emotional responses.

  • Teaches stewardship rather than suppression

Participants learn that emotions can be acknowledged without allowing emotions to dictate behavior.

  • Emphasizes sanctification

We recognize emotional growth as part of the believer’s ongoing journey of becoming more Christlike.

  • Builds personal responsibility

We teach participants to take ownership of their choices, responses, communication, and relationships without shame or condemnation.

Why we exist

Many believers have learned to pray about their emotions without learning to understand them.

Some have been taught to suppress anger. Others have been told that experiencing anger is itself sinful. We believe there is another way — and our ultimate goal is to help people move:

  • ReactionResponse
  • SuppressionHealthy expression
  • ConfusionUnderstanding
  • DysfunctionHealthier patterns
  • Emotional bondageGreater freedom and maturity in Christ
